Does your business use vehicles?

Even the smallest business uses vehicles at some time,
but if you happen to be the person with responsibility for ensuring that all your vehicles and drivers are entirely legal and up-to-date, it can become a nightmare.
Here's just one of the enquiries we have had recently:

"I'm really worried about one or two of our delivery drivers"

Joan P phoned and was worried: one driver was persistently reporting vehicle damage, and another was getting through much more fuel than she thought necessary.
We soon found that the first driver had a problem with peripheral vision, and was colliding with parked vehicles and posts, etc., claiming his vehicle was being 'hit while parked', whilst the other just had a very heavy right foot and drove in a stop-go-stop manner, accelerating and braking harshly. He had also conveniently 'lost' his paper licence counterpart, and Joan had no idea that he had 9 points!

We were able to get both drivers driving properly very quickly: the first needed prescription glasses, and both needed on-road coaching to get their driving standard up to an acceptable level again. In addition, we went on to carry out full licence and eyesight checks, together with on-the-job driving assessments for 11 drivers, and brought in easy audit systems for Joan to keep on top of everything.

Two more drivers were found to need optical support, and one had the wrong licence for the vehicle they were driving: Joan had no idea, but she would have been the 'responsible person' in the event of a collision, and
personally legally liable.

On the upside, she found a reduction of 19% in overall vehicle running costs, which saved her company more than the cost of our intervention in the first quarter alone!

This example points up the two most common problems in business: compliance and economy.

Failures in compliance, whether of vehicle or driver documentation or condition, can cost a company very dear in the event of a collision or a Police stop.

Fuel wastage, usually accompanied by unnecessary wear and tear, vehicle damage and complaints, together with tickets issued for parking or speeding, simply wastes hard-won company profits. We can help!

Have a look at our COMPLIANCE page, and make sure you are doing everything possible to keep your business legal, especially with regard to the 'grey fleet': private cars used for business by your staff. Businesses are responsible for these!

Also, take a few moments to see our ECONOMY page, and see what we can do to help you to cut costs and increase profits.

Most interventions are self-financing!
