FIRST RESPONDERS
Community First Responders normally operate within a small geographically-defined area, often close to home or work, and are trained volunteers called upon by the ambulance service to become the 'first person on scene' to a local health emergency incident.
As such, they are not required to drive any great distance (often not more than two or three miles), and do not qualify for any exemptions under the Road Traffic Acts, nor are they entitled to display any flashing beacon (blue or green), except in certain areas, and where trained to do so by the local NHS Ambulance Trust.

It is legal to display a green beacon whilst transporting a Registered Medical Practitioner who is undertaking an emergency call, but not otherwise.
We are pleased, however, to be able to offer training to ensure that First Responders drive to the highest standard possible, enabling them to arrive safely and prepared for the emergency. Our training also considers the needs of the subsequent ambulance or paramedic crew with regard to access and parking.
The training we offer is brief, but comprehensive, and in certain circumstances free of charge: call us for details!
