EMERGENCY RESPONSE DRIVING

ONWARD Driver Training provide a wide syllabus of training, tailored to the needs of the Emergency Driver. Provision is made for all classes of Urgent Duty driver, from Emergency Doctors to Off-Road driving for Mountain Rescue, Fire Service and other Agencies, and covers every area from Journey Management and 'Red Mist' to vehicle and equipment knowledge, the use of audible and visual warning equipment, Highway Regulation exemptions, lighting regulations and Health and Safety.

Rigorous standards are maintained throughout training, with attention to detail being the key. Emergency Response drivers trained by ONWARD will be at the peak of excellence in their ability and understanding. In addition, we can offer refresher and rehabilitation training where necessary, and provide a standards monitoring service.

The training programme is designed around individual need, combined with the class of vehicle and level of response required: it is not a 'one-size-fits-all' package. Training for Emergency Personnel using Service Vehicles will normally take place in those vehicles. Doctors using Green Warning Lights would usually use their own vehicles, as these would normally be the vehicles they use on duty. We do have, however, our own dedicated training vehicles which are available for use in instances where trainees, such as volunteers, have no immediate access to Emergency Response-equipped vehicles.

Our training is also tailored to cater for the needs of volunteer drivers, particularly Ambulance drivers, who often have very little time and little or no institutional financing for their essential training. Our courses are designed on a modular basis, to ensure that the right amount of the most appropriate training is delivered, at an affordable price.

Training is restricted to bona-fide Emergency Drivers and is not available to the general public.
